Kilgore officer sustains broken finger in scuffle with forgery suspects

KILGORE/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Two men are in the Kilgore City Jail after a weekend forgery and scuffle with police that left an officer with a broken finger.

According to Kilgore police, officers responded to H&L Package Store in the 2000 block of South Henderson Blvd. on Sunday, after reports that two men were trying to pass counterfeit checks. Upon arrival, one of the men assaulted an officer, and a Taser was deployed to subdue and apprehend him, according to police.

"A KPD officer sustained a broken finger during the struggle," according to police on their social media page.

Moyses Aguirre-Banega was charged with robbery, forgery and assault on a peace officer, while Jose Ortez was charged with tampering with physical evidence, forgery and failure to identify a fugitive from justice.

Both men remain in the Kilgore City Jail today, Aguirre-Banega on $750,000 bond; Ortez on $500,000 bond.
