SPECIAL REPORT: How loud is too loud?

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- Kids these days have just about any music they want at their fingertips, and they sure do love it loud.

"Something that she loves to do it seems she likes to listen to it on max volume," Danielle Boyd, a mother of two kids, said.

Boyd allows her 4-year-old daughter Cadence to only use headphones, not ear buds.

"I just don't want to mess up her hearing right now," Boyd said.

She's not alone in her concern. Audiologist David Twomey says it's easy to tell if the music is too loud.

"Can the parent or the adult also hear the music? That would suggest it's probably turned up too loud," Twomey said.

He says a good place to keep the volume at is about 60 to 70 percent of the maximum.
