Convicted Gregg County murderer put to death

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - It's been 10 years since 44 year - old Lola Nixon was beaten, murdered and found lifeless in the trunk of her BMW I spoke with a neighbor and friend who say after today's execution of Mario Swain, Justice will have been served.

"Shock absolute shock."

It was the only way neighbor John Nevel could describe the community's reaction to the tragic death of a neighbor who once lived just two doors down in Longview.

"He apparently went in there to rob the house and she came home unexpectedly and he murdered her."

Just two days after Christmas...

"He could've left, he could've knocked her out or tied her up."

But that's not what happened to Lola Nixon...

"She was brutally killed it was blood all over the house."

Isabelle Seegel was a neighbor and friend of Lola's. She sat in on one day of the murder trial in 2003...

"I couldn't believe the man was a monster."

Seegel says during the trial prosecutors said swain physically attacked other women...

"I am sorry I have no sympathy."

No sympathy for Mario Swain, the man convicted of coming into their community uninvited and taking the life of a neighbor and friend.

Nevel fears others could have been next...

"Probably did get a serial killer before he became one."

"We'll never forget Lola."

The Gregg County District Attorney say The Court of Criminal Appeals denied a stay of execution for Swain Tuesday.

Swain was executed at 6:39 p.m.

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Lawmakers and people in transportation gathered in Longview today,, asking for voter support of a constitutional amendment in November, meant to improve Texas roads. Proposition one, if passed, would divert half of the oil and gas revenue from the state's rainy day fund to TxDOT. Next budget year, that could amount to about 1.4 billion dollars.
