Free ‘Hope Hustle 5K and Fun Run’ to be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at UTHSCT

TYLER (KYTX) - More than 600 runners, walkers, and ramblers are expected to attend the free "First Annual Hope Hustle 5K and Fun Run" that will be held the morning of Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, on the wooded campus of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, located at the corner of U.S. 271 and Texas Highway 155.

UTHSCT President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun will open the 5K race, which begins at 8 a.m., and the one mile walk or run, which begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K and fun runs will follow a winding course through the forest of pines that cover most of UTHSCT's 600 acres.

"We're hosting the Hope Hustle to highlight wellness activities for our employees and the community, and to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living. We also want the community to visit our campus and see all that we have to offer, including nationally known specialists in lung disease and cancer and a new Cancer Treatment and Prevention Center," said David Conley, UTHSCT's wellness and training coordinator.

There is no cost to enter the race, but registration is required. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. Children under the age of 10 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.

A committee of UTHSCT employees organized the Hope Hustle.

UTHSCT is holding the Hope Hustle to show its support for Tyler's Fit City Challenge and the regional Lighten Up East Texas wellness initiatives, which focus on developing and maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle.
