Longview High School students pay tribute to wreck victim

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - It's been just 2 days since the Ford F150 pick-up truck carrying 4 Longview High School Students and soccer teammates rolled over instantly. The crash  killed the 3rd passenger 18 year-old Cristian Ali Monreal.

A tribute Friday around Cristian Monreal's parking space, as classmates gather to remember their friend.

"I wish the would have never happened to him."

17 year-old Eduardo Barron, still injured from the wreck, was a passenger  in the cab of the truck when it rolled over.

Police say a 17 year old driver, also a teammate was going too fast driving them all back to soccer practice Wednesday.

Barron  says he and Monreal were excited about playing soccer together.

"It was going to be his first year in soccer too."

Doctors just released Alex Aguirre from the hospital and now he's on crutches.

Police say he was in riding in the bed of the truck with Monreal when it flipped. He says the community's support is helping him deal with this tragedy.

"Makes us all happy to know everybody in the school is here for us."

He says he'll need to rely encouragement from friends on the long road ahead...

"Keep on showing their love and showing us that they're there for him, that would be appreciated."

As both boys heal physically and emotionally, they say their friend Monreal will always be in their hearts

"Make him more special, makes him a better person."

"My right hand and I love him so much."

Monreal's visitation is tonight until 8 at the Rader Funeral Home on Judson Road and his funeral is scheduled for this Saturday at 2 p.m.
