TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Local officials and community members gathered today for the groundbreaking of a 50,000-square-foot medical insurance claims processing center that will bring more than 300 new jobs to Tyler.

"It's been the kind of community we look for," Centene Corp. Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Neidorff said of why Tyler was chosen for the new facility.

Founded as a single health plan in 1984, Centene Corp. provides health care-related services to organizations and individuals. The Tyler facility will be a part of the company's national managed care system, processing claims from physicians, hospitals and other health care providers.

Centene is expected to bring 327 new jobs in Tyler and invest at least $15 million in the facility, which is expected to be completed in 12 months.

Centene is the first tenant in the 140-acre Tyler Business and Technology Park off of Earl Campbell Parkway.
Local officials spoke at the ceremony, attended by about 50 people.
