New health insurance company bringing more than 300 jobs to Tyler

TYLER (KYTX) -- It's a big win for the community, and people looking for work. A health insurance company called Centene, building a new claims processing center in Tyler.

It's pretty much a model for the type of business leaders want to attract. "The economy nationally has been slow, we've lost some jobs locally, and this represents a transition," Tom Mullins, President of Tyler's Economic Development Council, said.

Tyler was chosen over cities like Waco, Abilene, and Killeen for the center employing 327 people. 

"Why Tyler? You're the kind of community that we look for," Michael Neidorff, CEO and President of Centene, said.

Centene is the nation's 4th-largest Medicaid manager will be breaking in Tyler's first-ever business and technology park."They are the first tenant and they are a model of what we're looking for," Mullins said.

The 50,000 square foot facility will have training rooms, a cafeteria, and a daycare center for employees.

The building is expected to double in size in the future, which could add more jobs down the road.

Jobs range from entry level, customer service jobs to supervisor or management positions. The average salary is about $45,000 per year plus benefits.
