MOUNT PLEASANT (KYTX) - A traffic stop for defective equipment resulted in a seizure of 745 pounds of marijuana Monday in Mount Pleasant.

Just before 11 p.m., Mount Pleasant Officer Juan Hernandez noticed a 2007 Ford U-Hall van traveling east on Interstate 30. Hernandez stopped the vehicle. During the investigation, his canine partner detected narcotics, according to a press release from Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Officers found 745 pounds of marijuana bundled and hidden in the back of the van, the release said. The estimated street value of the seized marijuana is approximately $525,000.

"This is quite a large seizure of marijuana at one time," Chief Wayne Isbell said. "Unfortunately though, these types of drug seizures and arrests are becoming more common. I am thankful to have a dedicated team of officers and staff working around the clock in order to make our community safer."

Wilber Pressley, 40, of Spring Texas and Ralph Ross, 37, of Detroit Michigan were charged with possession of marijuana weighing between 50and 2,000 pounds. Both men were transported to Titus County Sheriff's Office, and bond is set at 75,000.

The offense is a second-degree felony punishable between two to 20 years in state prison with up to a $10,000 fine.
