LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - One room, 30 different schools and nearly 1,300 middle "A lot of kids not just one little group learning about leadership."

But just because 8th grader River Bennett is out of school today, chaperon Sherri Wright says that doesn't mean there's not a lesson to be learned in today's leadership summit.

"Students can look around at the 1,300 student that are here and say I'm not the only that needs to be changing the way I'm thinking."

Today's middle school leadership summit put on by the Region 7 Education  Center, focused on staying in school, making good choices and becoming a leader.

"It's important to be a leader because you need to be a role model for other people."

For river Bennett that relates to life on campus, and at home.

"I have little brothers and sisters and they pretty much do whatever I do."

He says today's keynote speakers gave him a lot to think about.

"I've thought about it before, but not as deeply as they've talked about it."

"They're talking their lingo they're doing activities to connect with the students and they're sharing real life stories that will make a positive difference."

Stories parents, faculty and Region 7 hope changes a few lives in the crowd.

They're really stressing make a U-turn, make a different change in your life so that you can be on top."

No matter what hand life deals you...

"You can make the best of what you have."

One of the many life lessons this group of kids will be taking home.
