General Allen to be investigated in Petraeus scandal

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - General John Allen's nomination to be the next Commander of the U.S. European Command as well as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe is now on hold.

The general has been drawn into the scandal surrounding David Petraeus after investigators discovered emails to Jill Kelley that the DOD termed "inappropriate".

It was Kelley's complaint to the FBI about anonymous harassing emails that led to Petraeus' resignation as CIA director.

The source of the emails turned out to be Petraeus' mistress, Paula Broadwell.

(CBS) - Another general is now in trouble. General William "Kip" Ward is being demoted and will now retire as a Three-Star General.

Ward is accused of spending thousands of dollars on lavish travel and unauthorized expenses. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says ward will have to repay the government $82-thousand dollars.
