Posted: Updated:

LUFKIN (KYTX) - The Lufkin Fire Department is investigating multiple arson and attempted arson incidents that occurred this week in a North Lufkin neighborhood.

About 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Lufkin police received a report of a possible attempted arson at a residence in the 900 block of O'Quinn Avenue.

Lufkin Officers responded to the residence and found a burn mark on the exterior of the residence that appeared to have been caused by a burning object being placed or thrown against its exterior.

Prior to the officers' arrival, the resident, who was inside at the time of the incident, extinguished the fire.

About 5:20 a.m.Tuesday, a fire at a vacant residence in the 1400 block of Keltys Street was reported.

Lufkin Police Department officers arrived and found flames at the rear of the residence. Lufkin Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire.

About 6:15 a.m.Tuesday, a vehicle fire was reported in the 1000 block of Hosea Dolphus Sr. Avenue.

Lufkin Fire Department personnel extinguished lumber that they found burning in the bed of a pickup truck.

About 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, a report of a fire at a vacant residence located near the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Keltys Street was reported.

A residence and garage apartment and a residence, all vacant, in the 900 block of Wilson Avenue were found on fire.

Lufkin Fire Marshal Steve McCool said a preliminary investigation indicates that the fire originated at the residence on Wilson Avenue and spread to the other two locations. The residence was destroyed.

At this time, the fires appear to be the result of arson but no reports of injury have been received.
