Welcome holiday season with a giving spirit at Carter BloodCare

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (CARTER BLOOD CARE) - Give the gift of life this holiday season. One in seven patients admitted to a hospital will need a blood transfusion. A single blood donation can help save up to three lives. November is a time of need for the community blood center. Carter BloodCare supplies blood to local hospitals and the need for new and frequent donors is ongoing and growing. Carter BloodCare must see 1,100 donors a day in order to maintain a safe and sufficient blood supply.

Giving blood is a powerful way to get involved in your community because it is always life-prolonging, life-saving or life-enhancing. During the month of November, the volunteer members of the Tyler Donor Center's donor council are urging the community to give blood with a Thanks for Giving campaign. Every blood donor will receive a ‘thank you' goody bag with items from Chick-fil-A, Cici's Pizza and Austin Bank during the month of November while supplies last. For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate blood, please call the Carter BloodCare Tyler Donor Center at (903) 363-0400. Carter BloodCare's Tyler Donor Center is located at 815 South Baxter Ave. The hours of operation are as follows:

* Monday: 11 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
* Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
* Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
* Thursday: 11 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
* Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
* Saturday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
* Sunday: Closed

Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent's consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving.

All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time they donate. It's also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information about donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call Carter BloodCare at 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
