Sky Ranch unveils prayer wall & outdoor chapel

Posted: Updated:

VAN (KYTX) - It's a one of kind in East Texas. An entire wall devoted to prayer. It was just built a few months ago in Van and will soon be open for others to see it.

"These are human felt needs, they're universal," said Linda Paulk, President/CEO of Sky Ranch.

You might call this a walkway of faith. Six huge stones stand tall with words from Jesus Christ on issues such as compassion, stress, even how to love your enemies.

"But I tell you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you," said Paulk, as she read a Bible verse on one of the stones.

This prayer wall is a new highlight on the Sky Ranch campus in Van.

Sky Ranch is a Christian camp and a place for retreat that's been in East Texas since 1955.

"The prayer wall was actually birthed as way to raise money for scholarships," explained Paulk.

Sky Ranch President and CEO Linda Paulk said this prayer wall has turned into something much more.

"I get chills every time I walk through," said Paulk.

She said those chills come from knowing that Jesus understands our trials and tribulations.

"When Jesus walked on this earth he experienced the same human felt needs that we experience everyday," said Paulk.

At the end of the prayer wall is an outdoor chapel. Inside the chapel is a flowing water fountain, beautiful stain glass windows, and a few brown pews.

"Everybody coming together and focusing on the project and making it work was phenomenal," said Sam Hasz.

Sam Hasz is facilities director for Sky Ranch. He oversaw this project.

"It was phenomenal, it was almost miraculous," explained Hasz.

Hasz said attention to every detail was important, even down to the type of stone they chose.

"We actually went to Arizona.  The stone was selected at a quarry and specifically trucked here for this project," said Hasz.

As the sun shines over these rocks, Lisa Paulk sees something special.

"There is power in prayer," said Paulk.
