We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - While some of us already have our turkey pre-ordered and waiting for next Thursday, there are thousands of families here in Longview who will be happy just to get a box of food from this year's Longview Thanksgiving Food Drive, but organizers say it's going to take the community coming together to make that possible for everyone who needs it.

"With the economy being bad and there being a shortage in food, every little bit helps and it's important that everyone knows that."

Bret Lacy is a senior at Trinity School in Longview and every year, his school donates thousands of cans to the Thanksgiving Food Drive.

"Well, you realize around this time all the things you have an we here at Trinity enjoy giving back."

"They are probably over all our biggest contributor."

Betty Horaney is the food drive's olunteer oordinator and she says nearly 1,300 families were sent letters notifying them they were eligible to receive food boxes tuesday.

Right now, organizers are taking inventory of donations but they don't have enough food to help all those families yet.

"Open your hearts bring us the canned goods, come out and volunteer Monday."

Monday afternoon, people are asked to drop off canned goods and perishable food items to the Maude Cobb Convention Center.

"1 can, 10 cans, 1,000 cans, the smallest amount is enough to help."

Tuesday, those families listed will pick up their food, just in time for thanksgiving.

"I'ts more than just a Thanksgiving meal, they will get more than just one meal out of it."

And if you live in Longview you can stop by any of your local Super 1 Food Stores and pick up a pre-packaged Longview Thanksgiving Food Drive bag for just $5.50. It comes with cake mix, canned fruit, icing, gelatin and everyone's favorite cranberry sauce, well, mine at least."

You donate those to families in need.

The drive usually gathers over 20,000 pounds of donated food from the Longview community.

"Any form of help this Thanksgiving will be great for those who are less fortunate."

"Hopefully they will have a happy Thanksgiving."

We all know Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without it's sweets, so Horaney says if you can throw a few extra cranberry sauces, cake mix and icing in your baskets, that will be appreciated.

Horaney says in addition to donations, volunteers are needed to help out Monday and Tuesday. She said there's no need to call ahead, volunteers can just show up at the Maude Cobb.
