Longview public bus system, beer distributor offering New Year's rides

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview Transit, in conjunction with local Budweiser dealer R &K Distributors, will again work together this year to provide Safe Ride Home night in Longview.

"This service gives us the opportunity to make our streets a safer place by providing a safe transportation option to citizens on New Year's Eve," Longview Transit Operations Director Tequita Mumphrey said in a memo to directors. "This service is free and open to the public inside the city limits of Longview."

It will be the fourth year of Safe Ride Home. Last year, more than 200 customers accepted free rides home or to their destination rather than drive under the influence of alcohol. This year, Longview Transit anticipates even more riders.

Service will begin at 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve and end shortly after 3 a.m. New Years Day. Advanced reservations can be taken as earlier as Dec. 3rd by calling (903) 753-2287 ext. 10. New Year's Eve phone lines are open from 8 p.m. through 3 a.m. New Years Day to take last minute reservations.
