Airstrikes between Israel and Gaza continue

Posted: Updated:

GAZA (CNN) - More diplomats are heading to the Middle East today, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an attempt to broker a cease fire between Israel and Hamas.

The death toll in the seven-day exchange of rocket fire has risen to more than 100 killed in Gaza -- with three deaths reported in Israel last week. Normal life has nearly ground to a halt in Gaza. Thousands of Israeli troops with tanks are poised at Gaza's borders, awaiting orders for a possible ground invasion. But the hope is the conflict doesn't reach that point.

Egypt has been working to re-instate a cease-fire and Arab league foreign ministers are visiting Gaza today. But Israel says any cease fire that is agreed to must be permanent.
