UPDATE: According to online judicial records, an Upshur County grand jury has indicted 31-year-old Andrew Lowell Crane on four charges stemming from the Nov. 21 incident in which Gilmer police say Crane stole a vehicle with a small child in the back seat.
Crane was indicted Thursday for aggravated kidnapping, child endangerment, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and tampering with physical evidence.
He remains in the Upshur County Jail on $285,000 bond.
(KYTX) - Upshur County sheriff's officials and Gilmer police have arrested a man who they say took a car with a 1-year-old boy inside Wednesday afternoon.
According to officials, Andrew Crane, 31, took a van from a Texaco station on Highway 271 south of Gilmer about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The car was found on Limetree Road in Upshur County, and the 1-year-old boy was found in a car seat on the side Holly Road in Upshur County. Officials said the boy was unharmed. The boy was identified as 1-year-old Zakar Sheikh.
Crane was found in th Latch community later Wednesday afternoon at a residence on S. Live Oak Road.
He was transported to East Texas Medical Center where he was being treated for self-inflicted injuries, according to Gilmer police.
