UPDATE: Lufkin DPS confirms with CBS 19 that one person died in the plane crash Monday night. He's been identified as 64-year-old John Thomas Steeper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was the pilot of the plane at the time of the crash.

Lufkin DPS tells us the plane exploded on impact.

The National Transportation Safety Board is taking over the crash investigation. CBS 19 has a crew on the scene and will bring more updates as they become available.

UPDATE: The FAA tells CBS19 the twin-engine Cessna 421 was en route from West Houston Airport to Tulsa Riverside Airport in Oklahoma. Investigators have not told us how many people were on board the plane, but it appears there were no survivors. The plane was trying to avoid bad weather in the area at the time. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

UPDATE: The possible crash site has now been reported as between Cheeseland and Choppin roads near Highway 7 in Pollok.

(KYTX) - According to police scanner reports and one witness in the area, a plane has possibly crashed near FM 1819 on the Cherokee and Angelina county lines.

Judy Tobias who lives near Redtown said she and her husband were standing on their backporch about 9:30 when they saw a "huge orange glow" in the sky.

As the object got closer, they could see that it was something on fire.

Tobias said a member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department who is a friend called to tell her they were getting reports of a plane crash. The CVFD were headed to the scene, along with numerous other agencies.

Scanner reports the possible crash site is in the Redtown area in Angelina County, but four-wheelers may be needed to reach the location.

CBS 19 has a crew on the way to the scene, and we'll bring you more information as we get it.
