Former President George H.W. Bush hospitalized

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush is still in the hospital this morning, fighting a nagging cough that comes with bronchitis.

He's been there since the day after Thanksgiving. Complicating his bronchitis recovery is that the former president has vascular Parkinson's. Doctor's say says vascular Parkinson's is milder than regular Parkinson's, and primarily affects someone's walking and balance.

While the former President is said to be OK, aide and spokesman Jim McGrath understands why there was initially concern.

"The first thing you do think about is, is this fatal, is mortality raising its ugly head? And at age 88 when you're talking about bronchitis, the last thing you want to have happen is it get into the lungs and it become pneumonia."

The former President is expected to be released from the hospital sometime this weekend. He is the oldest living former President and a World War II veteran.
