Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - If you've had a heart attack or stroke, eating right could protect you from having a second one. A new study published in the journal "Circulation" found those who ate a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and fish reduced their chances of dying from cardiovascular disease 35-percent. People who ate heart healthy also had a 14 percent lower risk of a new heart attack and a 19 percent lower risk of stroke.

(CBS) - Teen girls who smoke could be increasing their chances of bone density problems later in life. Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital found smokers accumulate less bone during that period of critical growth and carry a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.

(CBS) - If you haven't gotten your flu shot - doctors say now is the time to go get one. The Centers for Disease Control and prevention reports flu season is officially underway - the earliest start in nearly a decade. Doctors say this could shape up to be a bad flu year because one of the strains circulating can cause severe illness. But, there is good news if you get vaccinated, the CDC says this year's vaccine matches up well with the strains they are seeing.
