Kemp (KYTX) - A Kaufman County woman attempting to stop a man from committing suicide ends up shot to death Monday evening.
On December 3, 2012 at approximately 6:41 p.m.., Kaufman County deputies responded to a shooting call at a residence in the 18000 block of FM 2613.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found one female age and one male both deceased.
As investigators arrived on the scene they learned from a witness at the scene that 41-year-old James Alan Nix of Kemp was making threats to injure himself.
The witness stated to deputies that Brittany Markham, 21, of Kemp was in the course of trying to keep Nix from injuring himself and the gun went off, with the bullet hitting Ms. Markham. As the witness ran toward the road to get help a second shot was heard.
As investigators entered the house they found both the suspect and the victim just inside the front door of the residence both deceased from gunshots wounds.
Kaufman County investigators are still in the early stages of this investigation, with more information possible being released at a later date.
