Health Alert: Cancer breath test

Posted: Updated:

(CBS)  - A breath test that can sniff-out cancer is a step closer to reality. Scientists in Italy say cancer cells produce substances that can be found in the breath. They used a breath analysis on people with and without colon cancer, and found it was accurate 75 percent of the time. Doctors are now working to improve the test's accuracy.

(CBS) - The key to preventing cancer may be found in red wine. British researchers tested the red wine compound resveratrol in the lab. They found a daily dose can cut the risk of bowel cancer in half. Doctors have yet to test the compound on people. Previous studies have shown resveratrol can kill cancer cells.

(CBS) - Too much wine or any alcohol can lead to a hangover and doctors say adding cigarettes to the mix can make it even worse. Brown university researchers surveyed college students and found kids who smoked during a night of drinking had more intense hangovers the next day.
