We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler native and Texas A&M Freshman Quarterback Johnny Manziel took home the most coveted award in college sports this weekend, the Heisman trophy.

Johnny Manziel is the first freshman in the 78-year history of the award to win the Heisman trophy.

"This a moment I've dreamed about since I've been a kid. Running around in the backyard, pretending I was Doug Flutie, throwing hail marys with my Dad," said Johnny Manziel.

His father, Paul Manziel Jr., couldn't help but tear up, seeing his son accept the coveted trophy and give such a humble speech.

"Most of all I want to thank God for allowing me to be here. All he's blessed me with my entire life, I'm so thankful for," said Johnny Manziel.

"When he got up to speak, love the kid, my heart just swelled for him," said Al Ridgeway, family friend.

Johnny spent most of his childhood in Tyler, running around his grandparents restaurant, before moving to Kerrville about six years ago.

Al Ridgeway is a longtime friend of his grandfather, Jerry Loggins.

"I told Jerry after the first time I watched him play, I said Jerry..that young man has an uncommon ability to see the vision of the whole field when he plays," said Ridgeway.

That's all anyone could talk about at Loggins restaurant, where Johnny's pictures hang along the wall.

"I know his grandparents are really proud of him, that's for sure," said Josette McCrary.

They're not the only ones.

"I was at Hubbard middle school and he was at Moore," said Kendall McAllister.

Kendall McAllister played basketball with Johnny when they were in middle school. He's followed Johnny's career since he's been at Texas A&M.

Kendall said Johnny's acceptance speech Saturday night in New York inspired him.

"It gives all the other 20-year-olds like me hope. If he can do it. Anybody else can do it," said McAllister.

If you're wondering if we'll ever have a chance to see the Heisman in Tyler...

"I guess I'll be bringing it to half Kerrville. Half Tyler. Definitely back to Aggieland," said Manziel.
