TJC pinning ceremony set for first class of paramedic/RN graduates

Posted: Updated:
TYLER (KYTX) - The Tyler Junior College School of Nursing and Health Sciences will hold a pinning ceremony Thursday for its first graduating class of a newly formed Paramedic to Registered Nurse Transition Program.

The ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Jean Browne Theatre located in Wise Cultural Arts on the TJC main campus. The graduates will then walk in the 2 p.m. graduation ceremony for the TJC School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Graduates and their hometowns are: Terry Batton, Flint; Jason Cavazos, Arp; Deborah Donahue, Tyler; Gena Dry, Fruitvale; Marty Edmonson, Naples; Alex Marshall, Ben Wheeler; James McClintock, Malakoff; Grayson McCreary, Corsicana; John Moore, Dallas; Daniel Pierce, Canton; Andrea Price, Chandler; Justin Reed, Tyler; Michael Russell, Kilgore; Kelly Stonaker, Sulphur Springs; Michele Thiem, Tyler; Brad Vanderbilt, Canton; and Jennifer Vanderbilt, Canton.

"This is a nine-month program designed around the typical time constraints of the working paramedic," professor and program director Teri Rada said. "Paramedics usually work 24 hours and have 48 hours off; so students are able to complete their coursework online, then complete their clinical rotations and skills labs on their days off."

Upon completion of the TJC program, graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX board exam to become licensed registered nurses.
