Beer and wine delivered to your front door?

Posted: Updated:

WINONA (KYTX) - The legalization of alcohol sales in Tyler and Smith County is changing the East Texas business landscape in more ways than one.

Now, one Winona liquor store will bring beer and wine to your doorstep.

"It's a lot easier than driving all the way out here," said Tyler Oliver.

Tyler Oliver thought it was a joke when he found out he wouldn't have to leave his house to get a drink.

"I kind of laughed, it's kind of a new idea. People bringing it to you," said Oliver.

Jen Alderson is the General Manager of Tucker's in Winona. Her store has delivery trucks leaving every hour.

"Most people call , they order a couple of 30 packs for the weekend and a couple bottles of wine," said Alderson.

How is it possible for a liquor store to deliver wine to another city several miles away? It's legal under Texas senate bill 1229, which was signed by Governor Rick Perry in 2007.

"So package stores like us, we use to be able to only deliver within two miles of the city we were in. The senate bill expanded it so we could deliver it in the city where we're in and the county where we're in," said Alderson.

If you want to have beer and wine delivered to you, you must have an ID and a debit or credit card.

They will not take cash on delivery and drivers will check to make sure you're 21 or older.
