LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Two east Texas schools fail to meet federal accountability standards for a fifth straight year.
The final report of adequate yearly progress standards -- shows John Tyler High School and a Longview magnet school fall in that category.
We're working to get reaction from Tyler ISD tonight.
Longview ISD says the ratings don't tell the whole story of academic improvements at the Forest Park Magnet School.
Forest Park Principal Bill Bradshaw said, "The areas in which we lacked Adequate Yearly Progress have been overhauled with staff changes, an intensive review of curriculum delivery, and training in the area of high yield strategies. We've also restructured the administration in four of the five areas.
"First and foremost, we improved our state rating from 'unacceptable' to 'acceptable,'" Bradshaw said. "A major reason for this has been an increase in parental involvement and a decline in discipline referrals. Also, the staff ... they are working harder than I've ever seen any staff work. All of this has contributed to a school climate better than it has been in at least 10 years."
