East Texas parents share feelings on school tragedy

Posted: Updated:

TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH (KYTX) - In the wake of the Connecticut elementary school shooting, most East Texas parents could only imagine the horror.

Some of them shared what they were thinking and how they responded in light of the news.

For more on this story, we go to Emily Guevara with our news partner the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Emily, what are parents saying today about this tragedy?

Well, they, like everyone else in the nation, were horrified by the news.

One parent said he wanted to go pick up his kids from school and hug them.

Another said she wants to see more security on campus to protect children.

And another said it's a sad reflection on the state of the nation.

Was anyone able to empathize with those parents who lost a child today?

Yes. Jennifer Carson is executive director with The Children's Park in Tyler and has lost a son.

Ms. Carson said the death of a child changes you – your whole life stops at that moment and all the dreams you had for your life and the life of your child are over.
