TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Cumberland Academy, a Tyler charter school, is slated to open a middle school in fall 2013.
The academy already serves kindergarten through sixth-grade students. It will add seventh grade for the 2013-14 school year and eighth grade for the 2014-15 school year, according to a news release.

Construction on the new campus is scheduled to begin in February.

It will be adjacent to the existing elementary school, at 1340 Shiloh Road, on property near the intersection of Shiloh and Copeland roads, according to the news release.

Current fifth- and sixth-graders at the school will have the opportunity to automatically be accepted for sixth and seventh grades in the fall.

Other students will be accepted according to the Texas Education Agency guidelines for charter schools, according to the news release.

The middle school campus will, like its elementary school counterpart, place a heavy emphasis on the use of technology in the classroom and fine and performing arts opportunities for students.

Core curriculum courses will adhere to the state's curriculum guidelines, and students will be evaluated by the state's standardized test, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.

Starting in January, parents can visit cumberlandacademy.com to register for the 2013-14 school year.

Qualified teachers and administrators who are interested in applying for a position at Cumberland Academy Middle School should send a resume to ncotton@cumberlandacademy.com.
