Posted: Updated:

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (CBSNEWS) - A suspicious person near a train station in Ridgefield forced officials there and in the cities of Easton and Redding to lock down schools Monday morning, CBS Hartford affiliate WFSB-TV reports.

Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance spoke about Ridgefield's lockdown at a news conference on the shooting investigation in Newtown, which is about 20 miles away.

Vance said there were reports of a suspicious person that may be armed but that all children are safe.

He said some state troopers were being sent to the area to assist local police.

No other information was released.
