Clock ticking for on-time Christmas mail deliveries

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Some are late shoppers, and others, well, they just haven't gotten around to sending those presents under the tree, until now.

"Sometimes, I wait a little late and have to send it next day or something," Pat Blocker said.

But this year, she's doing better than years past. She said she's mailing her grandson and his family their Christmas gifts almost a week in advance. She says for her, that's doing good.

"I sent one package but it had about 40 items in it," Blocker said.

This way she can save herself the time wondering if each package made it on time.

"I just put it all in one so it has a better change of arriving at once, instead of 5 or 6."

Owner of Longview's Pack 'N' Mail Dave Cornett says, he can barely take a deep breath. His store has been very busy with last minute shipments all across the nation.

"The sooner you do it the less it costs you to do it, Cornett said"

Otherwise, you'll have to pay more for express and overnight deliveries. Experts have some advice:

  1. Ask if you can get your gifts to their destinations on time if you ship by ground
  2. Try not to use a bigger box than needed
  3. Double check to be sure all label information is correct and legible.

"The real procrastinators will be in later this week, in fact they'll be in Saturday trying to get it there by Christmas," Cornett said. And it's more expensive.

Something pat Blocker know's all too well.

"I got all my Christmas shopping done and I finally got a chance to mail it," she said.

Dave Cornett says if you're trying to get something shipped by Christmas, it's time to get it done.

Pack 'N' Mail says if you still have that gift that you need to get shipped off, the sooner you send it the better chance it has of making it on or before Christmas.
