Health Alert: Asthma increases risk of pulmonary embolism

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - A new study reveals people with asthma have an increased risk of pulmonary embolism. Researchers in the Netherlands found people with severe asthma are 9 times more likely to develop the condition that blocks arteries in your lungs, usually caused by blood clots. The risk drops to three and a half times in people with a moderate form of the breathing problem.

(CBS) - Having diabetes or high blood pressure could affect a person's fight against colon cancer. Researchers at Temple University say a person who has one of those conditions has a significantly higher risk of their colon cancer coming back and of dying after treatment.

(CBS) - Having more family meals could lead to healthier diets for kids. A new study in the journal of Epidemiology and Community Health looked at more than 200 children across London. The study found kids who always ate meals with their family at the table ate more fruits and vegetables on average than children who never ate with their families. The World Health Organization says people should get five servings of fruit and vegetables daily for good health.
