Update: Wood County wildfire burns 50 acres, officials report

(KYTX) - The wildfire in Wood County has been contained by officials but continues to be monitored, according to the Texas Forest Service.

A wildfire burned between 45 and 50 acres Thursday in Wood County, according to state fire officials.

The state operations center received a report of a fire off CR 3588 and CR 2869 in Wood County. The fire is located in a steep canyon area, according to reports.

"There is a containment line all the way around the perimeter. But (there is) probably still a little bit of active fire within the perimeter which is why it is not considered controlled," said Karen Stafford of the Texas Forest Service.

"They will continue to monitor and check on it again tomorrow."

High winds were a contributing factor, officials said. The fire was reportedly started by a damaged utility pole. There was no danger to property, and no injuries were reported.

The Texas Forest Service sent two bulldozers to help contain the blaze. The Winnsboro Fire Department, Wood County Sheriff's Office and emergency management, the Precinct 1 constable and fire crews from Perryville, Hainesville, Winnsboro, Hawkins, Quitman and Holly Lake are also on the scene.
