Web Exclusive: Starbucks making potent point on fiscal cliff

Posted: Updated:

(CNN/CBS) - It seems movie-goers ditched carols for a musical this Christmas.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Les Miserables" topped the Christmas day box office.

The film adaptation of the Broadway musical brought in 18.2 million dollars.  The biggest opening day for a musical.  Santa didn't forget Quentin Tarantino, either.  "Django Unchained" took the second spot, grossing 15 million, breaking its own record.  The top Christmas Day opening for an R-rated film.

Be glad you don't have to pack up one Southern California house after the holidays!  Alison Siewert really likes Christmas trees.  So much so, she has more than a hundred of them in her house. "When I get an ornament I just have to create a tree for it," says Siewart.

Siewert says she started the tradition 13 years ago when her daughter was born and it continues to grow.

Starbucks will publicly take a stand on the looming fiscal cliff.  CEO Howard Schultz is asking workers at its 120 DC area stores to write "come together" on the coffee cups they serve today and Friday.

He says it's a way to quote, "Send our elected officials a respectful, but potent message, urging them to come together to find common ground," says Schultz.  If a deal isn't reached, widespread tax increases and automatic government spending cuts will kick in next week.

Starbucks notes workers are not required to write the message on cups.

There was panic at a mall that sent shoppers running yesterday.  It happened in Sacramento after a mall fight.  The director of mall security says 20 people were involved in the brawl.

Four were arrested.  Some customers say they heard loud sounds like gunshots, but security say they found no evidence of a shooting.  Many stores reportedly went into lockdown, closing their metal gates, when the fight started.  The mall was reopened a few hours later.
