Send Big Tex a howdy, or donate to help rebuild him

Posted: Updated:

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) Want to help in the rebuilding of Big Tex? Now you can, with an online donation.

The State Fair of Texas is taking donations to cover the cost of restoring the icon destroyed by a fire in October.

Fair officials say Big Tex was insured for about $200,000, but it could take three times that to rebuild him.

You can donate any amount, but giving $25 will certify you as one of Tex's Friends, while $1,000 puts you in the Tall Texan category.

You can make your donation at bigtex.com.

Meanwhile, the fair says Big Tex wanted to say thanks to the thousands who have wished him well this year, and used his annual letter to Fair workers to take time to pay back the gratitude.

To read Big Tex's letter, click here. To send him your own word of greeting, you can email him at bigtex@bigtex.com.
