Longview man indicted for Wood County fishing tournament fraud

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A Wood County grand jury has indicted a Longview angler for fraud in a fishing tournament.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested 49-year-old Joey Walker at 2:15 Sunday morning on FM 2206. Walker was released from the Gregg County Jail on $5,000 bond later that day.

Walker was indicted Nov. 27 for committing fraud in a fishing tournament in which the prize was at least $10,000. A warrant was issued for Walker's arrest on Dec. 5. According to online Wood County records, Walker faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the third degree felony.

Online records from Wood County and basschamps.com show that Walker participated in the Skeeter Bass Champs' Big Bass Tournament at Lake Fork in Wood County on June 9, the date that prosecutors say Walker committed fraud. Walker won no prize money after finishing in 32nd place in the tournament.
