Making your 2013 resolutions to better health reality

Tyler (KYTX) --   You've already established your New Year's Resolution, but now it's actually time to carry it out.

Many people are striving for better health in 2013. "The challenges are not just physical, it's a little bit mental also," TJ Camara, a personal trainer at Premiere Fitness in Tyler, said.

He says many resolutions fail because people set the bar too high. "A lot of people are intimidated going to the gym. They think everyone will look like a fitness model. But you're going to have high and lows," Camara said.

One exercise he suggests is ball slams, which relieves stress. "I've had a lot of people tell me slamming that ball is a similar to hitting a punching bag pretty much," Camara said.

The slams work out arms, legs, and abs--all problem areas. Crunches also help with that, and squats.

Another popular resolution is smokers who want to kick the habit. "I've tried to quit before. I think the longest I've gone is maybe two weeks trying to quit cold turkey," BJ Rambo, of Tyler, said.

Rambo thinks this year may be different. He's started using electronic cigarettes and they've helped. "Since I've bought it I immediately went from a pack a day, to 5 cigarettes a day," Rambo said.

Fitness experts say you should notice a big difference in your workout, once you quit.
