10 week old treated for trauma, father charged with injury to a child

TITUS COUNTY (KYTX) - Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 Titus County Sheriff Officers arrested Christopher Amerson and placed him in the Titus County Jail on the warrant and charged with injury to a child, a second degree felony.

On Friday, December 28th, 2012, the Titus County Sheriff's Office was made aware by Child Protective Services of an approximate 10-week-old child of which was at the Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant and reportedly being treated for trauma to the brain.

Sheriff's Investigators immediately launched an investigation and learned that the child would soon be flown to Children's Hospital in Dallas to be treated. Investigators say that after interviewing the father of the child, it was determined that the child was injured while in the care, custody and control of the father.

Although the details of the investigation cannot be released, investigators say that an affidavit of probable cause was prepared and presented to the Titus County District Attorney Chuck Bailey who supported the findings by preparing a complaint in order to be presented to Justice of the Peace Kay McNutt for a warrant.

The affidavit and complaint was presented to McNutt of who issued a warrant for the arrest of 22-year-old Christopher Michael Amerson of Mount Pleasant for Injury to a Child, a second degree felony.

An individual adjudged guilty of a 2nd degree felony shall be punished by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for any term of not more than 20 years or less than 2 years in addition to being assessed a fine of any amount not to exceed $10,000.
