Health Alert: Possible cancer breakthrough in Japan

(CBS) - A new discovery that could lead to a breakthrough in treating cancer. Researchers in Japan say they have engineered a new type of cancer-eating stem cell. Scientists are now trying to figure out if the new T-cells can specifically target tumors, and cell that are not healthy in the body.


(CBS) - Researchers at the University of Ohio say they may know why some women struggle keep off weight as they age. They found the female hormone estrogen suppresses an enzyme that produces fat. But as women get older, especially after menopause, they pack on pounds because they lack the estrogen to fight the fat producing enzyme. Researchers say this is especially true among women who have type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.


(CBS) - Doctors have never understood why morphine increases pain in some people. But new research, published in Nature Neuroscience, has identified cells in the spinal cord that may be responsible for some patients experiencing greater pain when doses of morphine are increased. Researchers say the findings may lead to new strategies to reduce chronic pain and pain after surgery.
