East Texans brace for heavy rainfall; severe storms
EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - It has been a pleasant Monday under mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the mid 50s. An upper low pressure system spinning over the Baja region of northwest Mexico and the U.S. Desert Southwest will cross northern Mexico tonight and Tuesday and draw considerable moisture into Texas.
That will set up a heavy rain event which will start with showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday and into the morning hours of Thursday. Heavy rainfall can be expected with 3 to 6 inches of rain possible over a large part of East Texas. Temperatures will be warmer through the rest of the week with highs near 70 degrees by Friday.
There will be another chance of showers and thunderstorms over the weekend with cooler temperatures Sunday and Monday. Highs will drop back to near 50 degrees then. Winds will be east 5 to 10 mph Tuesday and Wednesday.
