IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Cowboys and Rob Ryan have ended their relationship, one that was short but never dull.

Ryan, the Cowboys defensive coordinator for the past two seasons, confirmed to local media outlets Tuesday of his dismissal, something confirmed by dallascowboys.com writer and former scout Bryan Broaddus.

The 8-8 Cowboys suffered multiple injuries to their defensive line over the 2012 season, including the loss of Josh Brent in an early December DWI crash that killed practice squad member Jerry Brown.

Starters Sean Lee and Jay Ratliff also missed significant time during the season.

NFL Network analyst and outspoken former Cowboy Deion Sanders tweeted his reaction to Ryan's firing by saying "Please dont tell me the boys fired Rob Ryan? He was NOT the Problem! The players respected him."

Ryan had one year remaining on his 3-year deal with the Cowboys.

There have been no comments from Valley Ranch on the firing.
