Kaufman County Sheriffs:

Kaufman (KYTX) - On January 7, 2013 Kaufman County deputies responded to a civil disturbance call in the 5900 block of E. US Highway 175 at approximately 11:22 p.m. When deputies arrived on the scene, two male suspects advised deputies that they had run out of gas and were trying to get their vehicle off the highway and got it stuck in the ditch.

After questioning both suspects, deputies learned that one suspect was wanted on six outstanding warrants from Balch Springs Police Department. After gaining permission to search the vehicle deputies found a baggie hidden underneath the console containing what was believed to be 12 Grams of methamphetamine, along with a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine with residue in it.

Jess Wayne Sweet, 45, of Dallas, and Robert Allen Phelps, 27 also of Dallas were arrested and charged with Possession of a substance in penalty group 1 over 4G but less than 200 Grams.

Both men were arrested without incident and transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center where bond is set at $50,000 for Sweet and $25,000 for Phelps.
