Man threatens others, fires shots over calls, texts to woman

TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A man upset about a series of phone calls and texts threatened three other men in the parking lot of a local convenience store with a gun Tuesday night and then fired shots when the men gave chase.

Don Martin, Tyler Police public information officer, said the incident happened at the Food Fast at 1707 E. Front St. shortly before 9 p.m.
Martin said one of the three victims had been calling and texting a woman he met earlier at another convenience store and was waiting to meet her in the Food Fast parking lot.

But as the three men waited a man and woman in a yellow Ford Mustang pulled up and the driver got out and confronted the three men.

"He told them not to call her again and pointed a gun at them and waved it around," Martin said.

The man got back into the Mustang and fled the location, but Martin said the three men decided to follow the vehicle to get a license plate.

As the vehicles neared the Delek Refinery area on Loop 323, the victims said the driver of the Mustang stuck his arm out of the window and fired several shots.

"We are investigating and we do have a license plate. We don't know how the suspect and the woman are related to one another at this time," he said.

Martin said while the men were able to get a license plate on the suspect vehicle, it was not advisable to chase someone who has already displayed a weapon while making threats.
