Woman pleas guilty in fatal 2010 Longview hit and run

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - On Sept. 4, 2010, Anna Catherine Shore struck and killed a man with her vehicle on East Marshall Avenue, then drove away from the scene, Longview police said.

On Wednesday, Shore pled guilty to the hit-and-run wreck that left 45-year-old William J. Jones dead. Gregg County's 124th District Judge Alfonso Charles sentenced Shore, 24, of Longview, to seven years' probation. If she fails to meet probation, she could spend a maximum 10 years in prison.

Witnesses said Jones was trying to cross the 1300 block of East Marshall Avenue when he was struck by a white Geo Tracker, which didn't stop and was last seen traveling east on the roadway, police said. Jones was transported to a local hospital.A description of the vehicle was broadcast to other officers, and it was a Longview police sergeant that spotted the Tracker and initiated a traffic stop on South Eastman Road near Interstate 20.

The police sergeant noticed damage to the vehicle. She was arrested for failing to stop and render aid at an accident and driving with a suspended driver's license, records showed. When Jones died two days later, charges against Shore escalated to third degree felony accident involving serious bodily injury or death.

Shore was defended by Henderson attorney Jonathan Darrell Hyatt. Gregg County Assistant District Attorney Chris Parker prosecuted the case.
