(KCEN) -- A Waco man has been arrested after he attacked his wife and mother and bit his mother in the face, then bit a police officer's finger and almost severed it. He was under the influence of synthetic marijuana at the time of the attack.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at 2101 Daughtry around 5 p.m. yesterday. While trying to arrest 27-year-old Richard Allen Butler on family violence charges, Butler bit an officer's index finger.
The finger was crushed to the bone and nearly severed.
Butler's 11-year-old daughter had called police when the suspect attacked his wife and mother.
Butler strangled and bit his mother during the attack and would not let his wife or mother leave the room. He also refused to let them call police.
Witnesses told police that Butler had been drinking and smoking synthetic marijuana.
While police were trying to arrest the suspect, he was demanding officers to shoot him. He had to be tased in order to take him into custody.
Butler's 47-year-old mother was taken to the hospital for treatment of a severe laceration on her nose. The officer whose finger was bitten was also taken to the hospital.
The suspect was medically cleared and was then taken to the McLennan County Jail where he was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, family violence assault/strangulation, interference with an emergency phone call, unlawful restraint and resisting arrest.
