DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Officials with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) confirmed Thursday that a little girl, who died earlier in the week, did indeed have the flu.

Family members found Tahila Johnson dead inside her Pleasant Grove home on Tuesday. County officials now say the 6-year-old was suffering from the flu and her death was caused by complications from the virus.

Tahila died just hours after being released from Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite. Family members said doctors diagnosed Tahila with the flu Monday night. They said after waiting for hours the little girl was given a prescription for Zyrtec and discharged. Her grandmother, Veleta Johnson, claims, "It took four hours before we actually got back there – but it took 10 minutes for them to tell us she had the flu and send us home.

Because of federal medical privacy laws, officials at Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite are not commenting on the case, but are expressing condolences.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone older than six months of age.

The vaccine is available for at the DCHHS building at 2377 N. Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. The opportunity is something DCHHS Director Zachary Thompson says should be taken advantage of. "This offer is one that should be hard to pass up. Parents should come and get the whole family vaccinated."

Tahila's is the third flu-related death reported in Dallas County since December.
