Whitehouse man charged with solicitation of a minor

Posted: Updated:

TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH (KYTX) - A Whitehouse man is being sent to prison after he tried to solicit sex from law officers posing as an underage girl.

23-year-old Oscar Vela was sentenced today by a federal judge in Tyler.

Danny Mogle from our news partners at the Tyler paper has the details.

Danny we understand that undercover agents communicated with Vela online.

In online conversations, the agents pretended to be a young girl.

This fictional girl told Vela that although she was underage she would be willing to engage in sex for a price.

After Vela took her up on the offer, he was arrested by the federal agents.

How long is his prison sentence?

Vela pled guilty to soliciting a minor for sex.

He was sentenced to 10 years by the judge and will have to forever register as a sex offender.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative to crack down on people who use the Internet in attempts to sexual exploit children.

To find out more about project safe childhood, see the story in tomorrow's paper.
