McKinney man charged in Mount Pleasant robbery

MOUNT PLEASANT (KYTX) - Just after 5 p.m. Monday the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a robbery at the newly remodeled and renamed Motel 6 located at 2502 W. Ferguson Road.

Motel clerk Richard Brown indicated he went to check on a room and when he came back to the lobby he observed a man behind the customer service desk trying to pry open the cash drawer. The clerk confronted the suspect and a fight ensued while Brown attempted to detain the suspect for police. The suspect was able to get away from Brown and fled in a vehicle waiting nearby. Brown did receive received minor injuries as a result of the altercation with the suspect. Brown was treated at the scene by EMS and did not go to the hospital.

Brown was able to get a partial license plate for the suspect vehicle and described it as a silver Fiat. A description of the male suspect was also given to police. Responding officers put out a description of the vehicle and suspect to area law enforcement agencies.  

Officers from the Franklin County Sheriff Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department located the vehicle on Highway 37 South in Franklin County. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Aryn Jacobi Ard 20 of McKinney.

Also is the vehicle was a 19-year-old female passenger from Mesquite. Both subjects were detained until Mount Pleasant officers arrived to take possession of the vehicle and suspects. Detectives were able to determine that the passenger was not involved and was released without being charged. Ard was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony and for being in possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
