Health Alert: Health Care Workers Urged To Get Vaccinated

(CBS) - The American College of Physicians is calling for all health care providers to get immunizations. The group is recommending all providers gets vaccinated against the flu, diphtheria, hepatitis b, measles, mumps, and rubella, as well as whooping cough and chicken pox. The group says these diseases are not only a threat to providers but to their patients who are often vulnerable.


(CBS) - Women who go through menopause early because of surgery may be at increased risk of memory and thinking problems. The study presented at the American Academy of Neurology's annual meeting, looked at more than 1,800 women. Researchers found women who had both ovaries removed before natural menopause had a faster decline in long-term memory and thinking abilities. Women on longer hormone replacement therapies had slower declines.


(CBS) - New research shows a low birth weight does not affect a child's risk of asthma. Researchers looked at about 4,000 children in Minnesota. Some were born with normal birth weight, others with low birth weight. Scientists determined that birth weight was not associated with a child developing asthma within the first six years of life.
