Fort Hood Wife Wants To Be Military Spouse Of The Year

Posted: Updated:

Twenty-one Fort Hood spouses have the chance to become 2013's Military Spouse of the Year.
We introduce you to one of the candidates, Marily Considine may have a good chance at taking home top honors.

Marily Considine is one woman with many roles."I'm an Army wife and a mom of two, I have two wonderful kids. I home school part time and I teach pre-school part time. I volunteer with the USO and then I've also started working with Susan G Komen.," she said.

And it's all while battling breast cancer.

"She inspires me," said her sister, Jocelyn Kwon. "With all that she has been through and all that she does, she always smiles. "

That's why Jocelyn has nominated Marily for Military Spouse of the Year. And if anyone deserves that honor, Marily's husband says, it's his military wife.

"Even through cancer she doesn't slow down, she's never changed, she continues to support everybody and oftentimes when she was at her sickest she was still thinking of everybody else," said MAJ John Considine.

The national winner will go on to talk about ways to improve the lives of military spouses. Marily hopes to create support groups in care centers at every instillation. The idea is to help sick spouses while their husband's are deployed or far from family.

"Most spouses will tell you we can handle it ourselves and we can, until the spouse gets sick and then it makes it very difficult to do it on your own," said Marily.

Anyone can vote for Military Spouse of the Year, whether you're a civilian or in the military. But there is just one day that you can vote. That's January 22.
