EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - A 13-year-old boy died last week after falling during a dance practice at an East Texas church, according Livingston police.

Francisco Emmanuel Mendez was taken to Memorial Medical Center - Livingston on Jan. 10 by private auto after falling while practicing for an Martin Luther King Multi-Cultural event.

Livingston police said in a press release that the boy lost his footing during a dance and fell into a nearby glass cabinet and then hit his head on the floor. After the fall, Mendez began having medical complications and was immediately taken by family to the hospital.

He died after arrival, the release said. A preliminary investigation into the cause of Mendez's death showed no signs of foul play, police said.

The investigation is continuing, and Judge Steven McEntyre performed an inquest at the hospital and ordered an autopsy, the release said.
